Blonde Moment

Now that we're in a new town, a new state, and many other new things in our lives, Makaela has been wondering what things are different and what things will stay the same. She asked me if her birthday was going to be the same "number". I told her that her birthday was always the same day, and that it could never change because that was the day she was born. She hesitated slightly and then shouted as only a 5 year old Drama Queen can do, "I was born on my birthday?!?!" LIGHTBULB!

Thanksgiving Chicken

I picked Makaela up from school yesterday, and as we were driving off she burst into tears as she realized that she forgot to bring home her Thanksgiving Turkey that she had made at Kindergarten. I know she had been working on it for a few days as she mentioned it often and she was very excited about it. I assured her that her teacher would save it for her and that we wouldn't forget it the next day.

This morning as we were pulling into school she remembered and asked, "Mom, do you think Mrs. Anderson still has my chicken?" She caught me laughing out loud...oops.

Moving On

Makaela has had quite a month! She left the only home she's ever known in Colorado to move to Washington State. New school, new friends, new home, new spiders...(we won't talk about that one!) She was an angel during the 1100 mile drive! She's been pretty brave in our new adventure! I want to be like Makaela when I grow up! Brave, adventurous and confident!

Covert Operation

I picked Makaela up from Preschool this morning and asked her what she did in school today? She thinks about it for a few seconds then tells me that she can't tell me part of it. Luckily I was driving home and she was in the back seat and couldn't see my smile thinking that it was just a couple weeks until Mother's Day and her awesome teacher, Mrs. Potter, was helping the little ones plan a surprise. I asked her what else she did that wasn't a secret. She hesitates, then says, "Mom, when is Mother's Day?" She thinks she's being so sneaky with her questions...it's so cute! I never did find out what else she did in school.
At lunch, she asked me when she was a grown up and had her own house (right next door to Mom & Dad just like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding") was I going to have other kids at home. After a resounding NO!, I said, "Nope, I'll just be stuck with Dad." For some reason, we both thought that was hilarious even though we love him dearly. I wonder how much longer she will consider me her very best friend? I hope forever.

What's All The Fuzz About?

Yesterday Makaela was a naked, rogue child running thru the house after escaping from the bath tub. I called her back into the bathroom...a few times...when she finally came back in, she inquired, "What's all the fuzz about?" Makaela lives in a grown up world and copies and imitates everything she hears, often mixing up a few letters. It usually ends in her Dad and I laughing hysterically and shaking our heads. Our most recent favorite is when she laughs at us and says, "You crap me up!"

The World As She Sees It

When my now almost 5 year old daughter was born, a good friend gave me a “Mommy Journal”. I’ve made comments and notes about important dates and milestones in her first 5 years, but there are so many more things I could record. She makes me laugh everyday and I LOVE to look at the world thru her eyes. Here’s the world thru the eyes of Makaela-

Yesterday Makaela came to me and informed me that she was NOT going to have babies. When I asked her why, she said it was because she was scared to go to the hospital. I told her that she didn’t have to worry about that for a long time (she’s only 4!) and asked her if she wanted me to go with her when that time comes. She said yes and we were both happy. Just for the record, she has also given me permission to go to college with her and to pick her husband. I better get some witnesses…
